Hello, Stage32 brothers and sisters! Today pre-production begins on 'A Suspicious Christmas', the first ever mystery movie set at Christmastime. It will film in Pittsburgh in December 2023 with Eric Chapman ('Craig Quits His Day Job') and Deborah Lassiter (author of the book 'Beyond the Face of the Movies') producing.
Every tenant's a suspect when Roxanne, a sassy candy shop worker, badgers Nicholas, her washed up mystery novelist neighbor, into investigating the puzzling disappearance of their overwhelmed landlord, Leo, in the days leading up to December 25th. It's 'Only Murders in the Building' meets 'It's a Wonderful Life', boasts a multiracial cast and celebrates community in a much too divided world.
Why so long in pre-production? Our model is the movie 'Vast of Night', a modestly budgeted film which turned out beautifully because they took two years preparing the hell out of it.
We are going to spend the next year fleshing out our production group - preferably those with experience working on films budgeted between $1 and $5 million - casting a wide net to find the perfect actors for all 32 speaking roles, and choosing the very best locations.
Please share if you are so inclined. Deborah and I want as many eyeballs on this as possible so we can build our dream team.
