Unless you are writing purely for yourself, I think you have to keep it in mind. Scripts are written to be filmed, films are made for an audience.

These days, I'm looking at writing smaller budget stories. Beyond that, no.

That's great, Phillip E. Hardy, Prolifique. With smaller budget stories, writers don't have to keep marketability in mind as much.

When crafting specs, yes I do...I've done quite mileage in marketing/retail and this may surprise you but people buy only what they want/need/is in trend...

Nah. I don't focus on "cart before horse" screenwriting.

Always keep in mind every genre has a built in audience. I'm sure you're a fan of the genre so there is already millions of fans willing to give you a chance. You just have to be convincing.

Thanks for the great breakdown/report, Steve! It's encouraging because I mainly write Horror and Thriller feature scripts that have limited locations, limited casts, and minimal special effects.

You're right, Jack. Great question to keep in mind when outlining/writing a script. I wrote an Animation kids' show, but its tone was for teens and adults. I didn't mean to write the tone like that. B A Mason (https://www.stage32.com/profile/841192/about) gave me feedback that the tone was off, and I fixed the show.
