Screenwriting : Movie title by Gerald Paul Barrett

Gerald Paul Barrett

Movie title

Not only do I write screenplays but I'm also a songwriter as well, so that's always a distraction to progress on my movie script. Christmas is always full of distractions too for progress on my screenplay, (these are my current excuses for not finishing my script).  In any case I find it easier to write a screenplay when I have a good working title for the project. If I don't have a strong title I find myself off thinking about what a good title might be and it slows down my actual writing. Do you have this stumbling block. p.s I just need to write 2 more scenes to wrap this script up, LOL.

Julie Griffin

Hi, my titles are pretty rubbish at the moment but congrats on nearly finishing your script.

Maurice Vaughan

I do the same thing, Gerald. I need a strong title and a strong logline before I write a script. Congratulations on getting to the last two scenes! :D

Arthur Charpentier

I have another problem - if I know the plot, I don't have enough motivation to write a script. I can write a script only without having a full synopsis.

Mark Giacomin

The title has to be right for me, it's part of the script's identity. However, the irony is not lost on me that should one of my scripts ever be purchased (check out my positive mental attitude), it's very likely the title would be changed to something else by the powers that be.

Dan MaxXx

No, i dont worry about titles. I spend my time hammering an outline.

Sam Sokolow

I work mostly in TV and of the 18 series I’ve managed to help onto the air only one premiered with the title we started with thanks to network/streamer marketing departments so I don’t worry too much about titles when developing TV. But a strong title can be a great North Star when writing a feature script.

Jim Boston

To tell you the truth, Gerald, I usually come up with the premise first, then I come up with the story's title. Once I come up with the story's name, then I give it a logline.

All the VERY BEST to you...especially on the screenplay you're about to finish!

Tanee Hazelwood

I tend to not have a title until late in the writing process.
