Tracking down the right email address to send a query letter to

So I have worked through all of the steps to write, refine, and prepare my script for the world. I joined IMDB Pro, researched companies and producers who are making similar films, and prepared my query letter. But so many of these companies end up just having a generic email address "info@productionCompany.com". All my research just ends up at this. Do I still send the query letter, even if I have a specific producers name but not their email address?

Eric Christopherson

You could send it that way to the generic address. Another option is to use an email finder extension such as Hunter that can sniff out personal email addresses at company websites. Either way it's often tough slogging with a hit rate (request for script) in the single digits, e.g., 5%. That's one reason why I use the services here, the paid pitching and coverage or consulting services. On the other hand, cold email queries are free.

Marcia McNair

I've found the same thing. I would still send it. Just based on my experience in publishing, I am assuming that interns or some other low-level personnel review the info email and forward the stuff that looks promising.

You should totally use those emails! When I was an assistant and intern, we were often tasked with going through those (IF it was a company that accepted unsolicited submissions, not all companies do). You can also access a lot of executives through Stage 32 though! Shoot success@stage32.com an email and let them know about your project and they can recommend execs you can speak with directly through consultations and pitch sessions

Yes, use those emails and the name you use is the Creative Exec or Story Editor or Development Assistant.

Use what you can find! Meet some executives through Stage 32 and widen your network. Google. Google. Non-brand name version of Google. Just be aware of who accepts unsolicited submissions and who doesn't. Also we do have some webinars that may help you!
