Filmmaking / Directing : The Banshees of Inisherin by Elvis Joseph

The Banshees of Inisherin

There aren't many films that I like, and even fewer that I would recommend. However, this has to be one of the best. It's impeccable, not just technically (though it shines in every department), but also in a more elusive way.

In "The Art of Possibility" by Rosamund and Benjamin Zander, the chapter titled "Giving Way to Passion" begins with a quote by Soren Kierkegaard: "If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth and power, but for the passionate sense of what can be, for the eye which, ever young and ardent, sees the possible. Pleasure disappoints, possibility never. And what wine is so sparkling, what so fragrant, what so intoxicating as possibility?"

"The Banshees of Inisherin" is just that. As a work of art, it is thoroughly intoxicating. It also serves as a perfect lesson in how truly good films can be made.
