Screenwriting : The Walk and Talk scene by Carol Preflatish

The Walk and Talk scene

Newbie problem/question here, I've been trying to figure out how to show in my script that two characters are leaving an office inside a building and have a conversation while they are walking to the sidewalk outside. How do I note that in a slugline? Thanks.

JD Wallace

That is two separate scenes for a clean look or you can just put INT/EXT on the slugline.

Marcus Leighton

Like JD said, you can simply use a slug line to establish a whole new scene. When I do it, I use an ellipsis to show continuation.

They walk through through the door…

EXT. OUTSIDE - DAY

… And head for their car.

If you don’t use a slug line you can also go this route:

Talking they head through the door

OUTSIDE

And walk toward their car.

Hope it helps and good luck with your writing.

Thanks for your help. I felt bad having to ask, but I couldn't find anything online about it.

Maurice Vaughan

No need to feel bad for asking, Carol. Feel free to ask questions. That's what the Screenwriting Lounge is for, among other things. :)

Alicia Vaughan

Hi Carol, It is two different scenes.

INT. BUILDING - DAY

EXT. BUILDING - CONTINUOUS

Dan Guardino

I do it like Alicia said as long as it is imediate whidh in your case it is.

Iannis Aliferis

I think I would agree with Alicia and Dan. Most straight forward way.
