Screenwriting, Networking, Learning

What’s your experience with working with a fellow writer on a joint story that you both created together? Was it a positive or negative experience?

Vicki Rosenthal

Very positive. My screenwriting partner is my husband, & we've been writing/producing partners for 20 years. We are fortunate that we complement each other. We both have strengths & weaknesses, and we found a way to make that work for us. We are able to put aside our "egos" & we work harmoniously together. It's a very positive & rewarding experience... I realize it could have gone the other way, too, but this was fostered over time & it was a process. We both had experiences & skills that we brought to the table, as well as a willingness to work symbiotically together....

It is all personalities. As much as I like people. I am a solitary person. I have worked from my home office since 2020. My wife has to drag me out of the house to visit friends. I would rather be punched in the face than have a writing partner. I would not know how to work with someone.

I can see it being rewarding for people. Just not me.

PS: this is not collaboration. I collaborate like a demon. Because everyone has “their” job feeding into a greater project. I just feel strange sharing my job.

Most of my co-writing experiences were positive, Josiah Bhola Hillaire.

One tip for anyone looking to co-write: Discuss everything up front so there won't be problems later on. Discuss things like writing credit, who will do what on the project, what each of you will get paid when the script or show sells, royalties, etc.

Tip #2: Sign an agreement.

I have never worked with someone on a project together but I would love to.
