They think that it's all about memorizing lines and emoting and don't realize how difficult the craft of acting is and how much technique it requires. And that auditioning in person or on zoom is a learned skill. It's hard to be natural in an audition.
I've heard several successful actors say that doing the job is the icing on the cake - and you had better be prepared to do it - but that the real job is auditioning. Focus on being great at auditioning and the rest will follow.
