Screenwriting : Pitching to a producer by Ugo Cavallo

Pitching to a producer

It's been a while since I last wrote a post. I hope this message finds you well and healthy.

I want to share with you the latest experiences I'm having as a screenwriter.

A few days ago I went to a documentary producer to pitch some content I've been developing.

I was so excited and worried that I assure you, I was out of oxygen!

Luckily the producer was in a good mood and his body language made me understand that I was not in a "dangerous" situation and therefore I felt at ease shortly after.

After my pitch he shared with me the critical points of the project and some advice, among these, he told me that it is a project that he would not know how to produce at the moment but that he would like to stay in touch in the future.

Clearly I was expecting a different outcome, but I think this kind of experience is equally constructive...

what you think?

Now I'm making appointments for other pitches while I gather strength for the next screenplay.

From this small country called Italy it's all folks! :)

Lindbergh E Hollingsworth

Let me sum it up: the door is open for you to return to this producer with other projects. So do go through the door again with other projects (once a month or so, and develop a relationship with him as he may hire you to help him).

Ugo Cavallo

it is very encouraging!! Thanks for the sum up Lindbergh E Hollingsworth :)

Jim Boston

Ugo, thanks for posting...and here's wishing you all the VERY BEST!

Ugo Cavallo

Jim Boston thanks for your comment and from the bottom of my heart I wish the same to you too !!

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Ugo Cavallo. Even though the outcome wasn't what you expected, it was constructive and you started to build a relationship ("but that he would like to stay in touch in the future").

Dan MaxXx

Here, it's called a "soft pass." Nobody wants to be the bad guy.

Check producer in 3-4 months if he answers your emails/return calls with your next idea.

Luisa Ibáñez

Hello Ugo, Congratulations for this big step. I would suggest also ask questions about the feasibility in the market. Producers have a network of financiers and investors with specific goals. Sometimes you have a great content in your hands but it's not the moment for this producer to raise funds because investors have other priorities. Build this relationship and always ask Producers, what they are looking for as well.

Hyrone Lilly

I understand exactly what you mean about running out of oxygen with a pitch meeting. It can be nerve wrecking, but remember that your script is what they want to hear about. What I can conclude to that, is congratulations getting to that part, with the documentary producer. Hopefully soon, you will hear a YES, like I wish for the rest of us. Keep pushing, and know that you have friends out here

Maria Soriano

Hey, Ugo. Look at it this way... You made a connection. Good job!

Vincent J Paterno

Many of you may be in my old network (for Vincent Paterno), which I no longer use. Please join my new network (for Vincent J. Paterno), at stage32.com/profile/1060699. I’m a screenwriter specializing in comedy features.

Brianna Grant

Ugo, this is amazing and each chance to pitch is a chance to learn and practice! Good on you for being out there and for gearing up to write more! Keep it up (PS I’ve been dreaming of going to Italy a lot lately!)

Anne Devina Reeve

With Devils Dwell …on Amazon ..I would prefer you to take a look please

About a girl wrongly convicted , and transported to Van Diemen’s Land in 1850 …

Thank you for your help I am 88 !

Anne Devina Reeve

Longline …Alyce bound for Van Diemen’s Land …with terror insanity as her companions. She has to use cunning, on the voyage, and when the Sea Duchess

finally arrives in VDL . It’s only then she gets her power to face a murderer, BUT there is another murderer, who travels to VDL to seek out RHODA ….

Kiril Maksimoski

Expect lotta "No's" and few "Yes's"...it's a bumpy ride, nothing guaranteed...considering the times we live in extra job is a good back up...don't waste time on "fake it, till u make it", maybe your new boss in the marketing company happens to be a former filmmaker...Carpe diem dude...

Ugo Cavallo

I will update you in the coming months with a new post. In the meantime I am glad to have received your comments and encouragement, they are certainly the richness of this network, thank you all.

@Brianna Grant , This country needs foreigners to learn from, you are welcome :)

Dan MaxXx

Did producer give you his direct contact info?

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Ugo Cavallo.

Dan Guardino

Ugo Cavallo Spec screenplays are used to make contacts so yours did its job. Thank the producer again and let the producer know about your next one. Good luck.

Robert Sacchi

Congratulations. You made a connection, got some advice, and got an experience with pitching.

Ugo Cavallo

Dan MaxXx The producer told me to quietly use his personal email, the same one I used to make the appointment
