ACTORS: Why Did YOU Start Writing Your Own Parts?

I was listening to this fantastic conversation between two of the actors from The Big Bang Theory, one of whom wrote and starred in her own feature film:

What has motivated you to write your own feature with you in the starring role? Or did you give yourself a supporting role? Was it the speech or the juicy one-liners? Are you trying to break out of a pattern of type-casting? SHARE BELOW!

I think it's a great idea for actors to write scripts with starring roles for themselves, Karen "Kay" Ross. Or even supporting roles. I know an actress who writes starring roles for herself in scenes, and she uses the filmed scenes to promote her acting skills. I talk to actors who say they have dream roles. Why not write those roles?

I love this! Definitely something I personally am working on.

Karen "Kay" Ross that's really interesting. We loved The Big Bang Theory in our house. I suppose what should be said about writing your own project to star in, is that Melissa Rauch had a different starting point. She started working on TBBT in 2009 and made The Bronze in 2015 and by that time she was already a household name.

I think it would be difficult for someone who doesn't have that status, to write their own project with the expectation of it being picked up by a network or streamer.
