After watching the video, I still think the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are going to get fair deals, @Curt Samlaska. The writers and actors can hold out (we've been in similar situations for years -- waiting for pay, having to stretch our money until the next job, etc.), so we have the advantage. How long can the studios and companies go without new scripted content?
I didn’t watch the video yet. But I looked at the creators other videos. I am struggle to find anything that isn’t just “failed…. [insert topic]”. Everything from the MCU failing to diverse actors in Disney movies.
While I know studios are banking on old content and Reality TeeVee (yuck), I think that's got limited appeal ultimately. I know it's what David Zaslav thinks he can count on, but I imagine he'll end up as Mogul of a mountain of crap because that's all he knows how to do....
If it's not clear, I find Zaslav and Reality TeeVee loathsome.
I think the studios' old content and reality TV has limited appeal too, Timothy Liebe. And with the actors on strike, they can't promote the old content, which is a blow to the box office and streaming.
What Craig D. Griffiths said—this Rando's YouTube Video sounds to me like taking your views of Biden's Presidency from Fox News or Trump's Truth Social account. I'm no Biden fanboy, but I was a poll worker when I lived in upstate New York (even a Poll Site Manager a few times), and every allegation Trump and Giuliani et al have made? Shows they don't know the first thing about how polling machines work, or poll workers do their jobs.
Unlike Trump and Giuliani, every poll worker I've known, even the most rabid Right Wing ones, take the oath we swear about honestly discharging our duties VERY seriously. (And if they ever don't, the local Board of Elections gets an earful about it!) Moreover, at least in New York State, the "electronic voting machines" are air-gapped so they can't be reprogrammed from a central location (to reprogram them you have to personally get inside the machine and manually do it to each one), there's a printed ballot everybody who votes fills out that can be manually recounted (and was, repeatedly, in battleground states for the 2020 Election), and every poll site has to have at least two Democrats and two Republicans there at all times to ensure a fair vote...for Democrats and Republicans, at least (if you're third party in NY State, you may as well not exist!).
That's what this reminds me of—some blogger trying to out-Murdoch Murdoch.
What’s with job postings? Who is doing the negotiations? I’m on a miserable plane trying to get to Texas…can’t really address now. Been delayed for over 4 hours…
LOL…you think MSNBS and CNN are any better? They all suck…nightly propaganda is a dead industry. Hell, all journalism is dead. Soon you will be able to drop in a few news points and let AI spit it out. Texas A&M here I come! Going dark..,finally.

Thank you very much. I watched this video and found the arguments in it convincing.

I hope so. Seems like it should be a big advantage for independent creators and producers.

I am just assessing the source before I dive in.
Studios can last a very long time without new content, years. They have massive libraries to be exploited and they're steadily pulling in revenues.

Good grief. The point is they don’t have anyone at the top or even any legal representation. That’s the point.
Curt Samlaska, that just sounds like BS on the face on it, hence my comparison to Fox News.
And here's the receipts—which were the strenuous result of a couple Google Searches:
https://www.wga.org/the-guild/about-us/contact-us/departments/legal-serv... - the person who heads up WGA West's Department of Legal Services is Katherine Shannon Christovich (huh, shares a last name with the Jesuit priest who taught Logic and Metaphysics when I went to Loyola-Marymount!).
https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/951809455 - WGA West's Chief Financial Officer is Don Gor, and his salary in 2022 was $322,515.
It really sounds to me like this YouTuber's job is to spread FUD for the Studio Bosses, and didn't bother to do his homework....
