Hey everyone!Â
I'm a screenwriter and author from Taiwan who used to work in China's entertainment industry. Due to some personal reasons, I made the bold move to the U.S. this year, leaving everything behind to start from scratch. However, the idea of chasing my American screenwriting dream while needing to master English feels like a bird without wings trying to soar high, no wonder my friends think I've gone nuts! But let me share my journey with you, and you'll see why I am this "crazy"! Haha!"
Back In 2007, after experiencing a business setback, I had an ambitious idea of becoming a writer. Without any prior knowledge about the entertainment industry, I immediately started writing. I didn't even realize that I could start with short stories! After finishing my first novel and facing numerous rejections, I penned another. By the end of 2008, I had my first novel published. However, I soon realized that writing novels wasn't as lucrative as I had imagined. Venturing into the unknown, I decided to try my hand at screenwriting, even though I had never seen an actual screenplay before. Miraculously, things quickly fell into place. I found myself involved in a major film project as a screenwriter, which paved the way for a decade-long career in the industry."
Throughout my journey, whenever I set out to achieve something, there were always naysayers suggesting I was wasting my time, was too old, or should I stop dreaming. I'm glad I never listened to them, haha! After all, in the universe's eyes, no dream is too big or too small. As long as you stick with one direction, it can take you anywhere—remember to be patient along the way.
I recently wrote and translated my first TV Pilot with the help of ChatGpt and Grammarly. I was thrilled to find out that it made it to the Semi-finals of the Emerging Screenwriting Contest. Initially, I thought it would take me a decade to master English and produce works in English, but now it seems like I might achieve this in just 7-8 years. It feels like I've gained a few years!
This experience encouraged me to join the Writer's Room today. I'm excited to get to know all of you and hope that we can share insights and learn from each other in the coming days.Â
Thanks again!

That's a beautiful journey, Cherry Yoko . And no, you are NEVER too old to start something new. I wrestle with that from time to time so it's understandable. It's simply not truth. Hoping for all the best for you.

Cherry, you must speak/write Mandarin, correct? Do you also know other Chinese dialects? I am working on a script and might need some translation. Mike
Mike, thanks for reaching out, but I'm primarily a screenwriter, you can try Chatgpt. Best of luck with your script.
