Acting family

I am a writer but I am a part of an acting family and I have to say it’s hard to watch my talented son walk away from acting. he loves it and has made it to being Sag eligible in Virginia of all places. it’s hard to get the credits because we don’t live where the work is and now everything is on hold due to the strike. I am a writer so I am trying to work on my talents here but my husband and son are amazing actors. I use to live in Orange County California and worked on a higher learning with no effort because I lived where the industry was hot. now just hoping to find the connections that will assist in bridging everything together acting and writing.

Hello! There's a lot to unpack here, but I'll try my best! I grew up without any money so even though I technically live in a country where there's acting opportunities I was never able to travel and all my work has been remote up until this point! I like to think I did very well.

Is he looking for something that pays well or just opportunities? Because there are places like the IMDB job section, Mandy, Backstage, Stage32, etc. where you can find some acting gigs as well as make connections.

In a worst case scenario where he's just looking for paid jobs, I recommend he gets or keeps a regular 9-5 job and save as much money as he can and travel once in awhile. That way he can get to LA or Canada. Wait for one role/gig that he really wants and make the most of that opportunity. When he gets a steady acting job it will be worth the risk.

Well that's good! It's a tough business for sure. I have friends who have had lead roles and still haven't been able to find anything for years. It's unfortunate, but it's important to be reminded that we do it because we love it. Even if we're forced to work boring retail jobs. At least we still are able to find some gigs every now and then
