There will always be people trying to downplay your work. I'm here to tell you not to listen to those people and keep doing your thing. I still get people trying to tell me I'll never get anywhere.
When I was a teenager and went to acting school I was told to get a real job. When I started screenwriting professionally I was told nobody would ever read it. When I created my IMDB page with homemade low-budget videos I was laughed at because they weren't real films. When I became a more serious business-man and had 2 films and a TV show to my name I was told they weren't really my projects and other people were the talented ones in those projects. When I hosted my own radio show and hired one of the best rock bands in the music industry today people told me I had to pay my way to success.
If I sold a script today and ended up with a movie on the big screen people would tell it's not as good as (insert any famous movie in that genre). People will always find ways to downplay your accomplishments no matter how hard you work and what you do. Don't work for those people. Work for you.

that’s what I like as I understand and it’s so true people laugh until they see your work no matter how small

I think people try to disparage artists because they're jealous. They're jealous because they are AFRAID to pursue their own passion. How is acting not a real job? If someone will pay you do it, then it's a real job. Look at social media influencers Is that a "real job?" If I could sum up 2023 in a slogan, it would be, "she who laughs last, laughs best."

100% I am part of an acting family and we understand but being in a community where everyone understands is supportive which is great

That's great advice, @Ryu Reeves. There's too much work to do to worry about what naysayers are saying ("You're not good enough," "You won't make it," etc.).

There are definitely people who may downplay your work but there are also positive and supportive people who will celebrate your work. I think at the core is the title of your post - Never Give Up!! That's the key to success at every level of this business. Thanks, Ryu Reeves!

Great advice, Ryu Reeves! This is an industry with a million ups-and-downs no matter how successful you become. It's so important to remember that you have to persevere no matter what and let your passion drive you forward. Thank you for sharing!

Really great advice Ryu! I always tell people that we are in an industry of resilience. It's a marathon not a race. People often get tied to the idea of not being good enough because they are playing the game of comparison. If you take the time to separate yourself from that game and focus on your individual marathon, there's nothing you can't accomplish. Keep on keeping on folks!
