Another Intro Weekend Intro

I'll blast this out as quick as I can so I don't bore the regulars who already know me:

1) I'm a screenwriter who has been at this for a very long time (22 years), have written a ton of scripts (I think last count was over 130), have been hired to write a bunch of indie stuff (that never got made, plus 1 that did), have optioned a bunch of scripts that's turned into 2 sales so far - both of which came out this year (CAPTIVE on Tubi and ELEVATOR GAME on Shudder).

2) I've recently also become a Realtor with Keller Williams. So if anyone needs to buy or sell a home in the L.A. area, hit me up for that too!

Yes, that's right, my new motto should be "Buy my script! And also this house!" lol

Jacob Martin

That motto is hilarious! It's comforting to know that it's okay to have a side hustle while still making scripts! Sometimes I feel like I need to either make money or write scripts.

Robert Weir

Hey Travis. I don't want to know the details but would you rate your two sales as financially rewarding? I've been writing for a long time too and with little pay, it's always going to end up being a side project while you work the normal job - that's until the breakthrough comes of course.

Travis Seppala

Robert Weir I'm officially debt free because of them. So... yeah, I'd say so. ;)

Travis Seppala

Jacob Martin At least until scripts make you money, you absolutely need to do both! I really have 3 jobs right now: professional screenwriter, Realtor, and a security dispatcher as an hourly job until I'm making enough from the first two to not need an hourly anymore.

Robert Weir

Thanks for sharing, Travis. Nice to connect too. It's a tough gig and nice to meet someone on the rise in this industry.

Maurice Vaughan

Over 130 scripts, Travis Seppala!? Wow! How do you like being a Realtor so far?

Robert Weir

DO you guys know if agents in the US will take on people from outside the US ie. Australia?

Travis Seppala

Robert Weir I know that in other countries outside USA agents and managers have slightly different roles. In USA, getting an agent is honestly harder than getting a script sold! If you got people wanting/buying/making offers on your scripts you can find an agent (higher the offers, better chance of an agent). So if you have offers, you can find one easier than just being an up-and-comer looking for representation. For that, managers are the more likely option (though not much easier to get).

Travis Seppala

Maurice Vaughan Yeah, for a very long time screenwriting is was pretty much the only thing I did. Only recently started cutting back to expand my horizons a bit. Only been doing real estate for a couple months so far and haven't gotten any buusiness yet. Ask me again in a couple months.

Sam Rivera

Great to meet you Travis Seppala!

Ty Strange

Cater to film producers, managers and agents, Travis Seppala , and after closing escrow leave your script(s) on the kitchen counter as a move in gift!

Maurice Vaughan

Hope business picks up, Travis Seppala. I second Ty Strange's suggestions.
