That’s great advice, Geoff Hall! Bryan Cranston said, “Know what your job is.” When I heard that, I thought “game plan.” Actors, writers, directors, etc. should always have a game plan going into auditions, writing scripts, filming movies, etc.
I really like the idea of thinking of an audition as a showcase of your talent and not about getting the job. Bring it leave it all on the floor and walk away. The rest is not up to you.
