Screenwriting : Where people will see my screenplays by Ciara Smith

Where people will see my screenplays

So I've been told starting out, to get people to see my screenplays. Build a recognizable voice. I know network. and I know contests or competitions. Contests and competitions though cost money which will build up with the many ideas I have to write. (I still will, but infrequently.) So. For a non-LA based screenwriter, where else can I get my screenplays in front of people?

Casey, you're more than welcome to post your screenplays right here on Stage 32. Just click on "Profile" and follow the instructions.

Other options include Script Revolution, Network ISA, Coverfly, InkTip, Roadmap Writers...lots of platforms out there.

Here's wishing you all the VERY BEST...so glad you're here on 32!

Leonardo Ramirez

Ciara Smith - As Jim said, you can post them on your profile. I would also suggest that you register them with the US Copyright Office before you do. I typically post a logline that folks can comment on and grade along with a summary and a link to the pitch deck. Feel free to go to my profile and see how I have my loglines set up. Hope this helps. Glad you’re with us!!

Between what you put in your post and the comments, you're on the right track, Ciara Smith. You could also use IMDbPro to find agents, managers, producers, etc. (https://pro.imdb.com/signup/index.html?u=http%3A%2F%2Fpro.imdb.com%2F).

Michael David

Personally, I wouldn't advise even trying to get a manager/agent yet. 99% won't accept anyone without more than one writing sample and who have sold material. However, I do agree IMDbPro is indispensable for finding producers to query. Look for projects similar to yours that have been made, and query producers.

Also, be aware that if you are writing anything above a $10M budget it is very unlikely to find a producer on IMDbPro as producers at that budget level are usually accessible only to agents and managers.

Ciara Smith

thank you Jim Boston and Leonardo Ramirez I am still getting used to the format and hadn't found those sections yet!

Ciara Smith

that's a great resource Maurice Vaughan thank you!

Michael David definitely not looking for a manager yet! I work with one who is giving amazing advice, but I'm all for putting in the work and finding the people!

You're welcome, Ciara Smith.

Dan MaxXx

During covid 2020, a writing peer - housewife and 3000 miles from Hollywood - became twitter pals with a tv showrunner. SR read her tv specs, vouched for her, a manager signed her off a phone call, and now, three years later she is a WGA union writer; a staff writer on multiple tv shows.

Basically, talent always rise to the top- to employers. Not fancy covers, not pitch decks. Actual storytelling craft.

CJ Walley

Do everything you can but, most importantly, network.

I've watching people enter competitions and chase representation for eleven years.

Stephen Folker

CJ is right! Network, network, network! You can go down a rabbit hole of competitions. Meet people, get your name out there!

I’ve given away 4 scripts.. people just read a page, and then forget about it. it’s difficult to find someone like us.. who would read your script..

I am

I can send you a link.. but my

script is in final draft..

let me know if you are interested.

Ciara Smith Yup, network. There are no shortcuts. First start with cinema-literate friends and colleagues and listen carefully to what they say. Then when you’ve developed your voice, check out the Next Step services on Stage32. You’ll find it a great experience to meet with Execs and Producers. It will also give you a sense of direction, as to where you should take your work.

As for those Execs and Producers, do your research and make sure they are producing films with the same tone and genre as you.

Ciara Smith

Thank you all! I will be doing my absolute best to network and make industry friends! I just like planning and utilizing every tool I can find lol Geoff Hall I will definitely check out Next Step services.

Ciara Smith

Roberta Wilson unfortunately, I don't have Final Draft. Are you able to download as a pdf? You could send it to caseysharp.writer@gmail.com

Roberta Wilson
