Great share, Geoff Hall. Michael Caine said in the video that the audience wanted Cary Grant to be funny, not serious. That reminds me of the genre box audiences put actors in sometimes. Some audience members want certain actors to only act in Comedy movies/shows, Action movies/shows, etc., and those audience members get upset when the actors act in other genres. That being said, sometimes actors like to only act in certain genres. It’s their brand.
Maurice Vaughan thanks, Maurice. Yes, in the past some studios pigeon-holed their actors into certain types of roles. One actor I was surprised to see move away from the hero to the villain, but loved him in the role, was Patrick Stewart in ‘Conspiracy Theory’, with Mel Gibson. I was (initially) shocked by seeing him in role like this, but it was an inspired peace of casting.
