Screenwriting : Longlines question? by Noah Stephenson

Longlines question?

Hello fellow screenwriters! I’m wondering if anybody would know the answer to a question I have about loglines. Does anybody know if it’s best practice to have loglines on your profile ONLY for scripts you’ve completed? Or is it common/acceptable to also feature loglines for scripts you have yet to write/are still in the process of writing? I’m wanting to have my full catalog of log lines on my profile but I want to make sure I have ones of the right status.

Maurice Vaughan

You can do both, Noah Stephenson, but I mainly see members post loglines for finished scripts. I only post loglines for finished scripts so if a producer, director, etc. gets excited about the loglines, they can download the scripts right away.

Hey Noah Stephenson, I have liked putting my loglines up whenever. My first logline I put up for a finished draft, the second and most recent to see what people thought. Good luck.

the longline is the thing you actually start with to get a clear vision of the thing. of course you have to update it throughout the process.

I'd promote loglines for available scripts only...would be messy if someone actually asks for the script and you say "oooh...haven't wrote that one yet..."

Jeffrey Knepper

mine is up there without a script

Keep in mind that you can't claim ownership of a story idea. If someone reaches out to you about a concept they love the sound of and finds out you don't have a script, there's always the chance they'll go and have it written by someone else.

I only post a logline when the script is finished and it's been registered with the US Copyright Office.
