Happy Screenwriters Day! And yes, there is such a thing. Here's a bit of the history behind National Screenwriters Day: https://nationaltoday.com/national-screenwriters-day/
What are some of the scripts that have influenced your screenwriting?
For me, it was "The Dark Knight". As Nolan puts it, "“My real interest is point of view. Deciding what’s the point of view we’re trying to express, who’s eyes are we seeing the story through?” This and an "economy of words" where dialogue is succinct and shaped by subtext really inspired my writing.

Happy Screenwriters Day, Leonardo Ramirez! I didn't know screenwriters had a day. Thanks for the history lesson.
The first script I ever read was "Office Space," but it didn't influence my screenwriting much. I didn't read many scripts when I started screenwriting. Big mistake. I haven't read "The Big Fish" script in a long time, but I remember I was impressed by the writing style/action lines. I've been reading a lot more scripts lately, and they've influenced my screenwriting, especially my action lines.

Maurice Vaughan - I didn't know screenwriters had a day either. My wife is a librarian so she keeps track of all the days to celebrate for the kids. She texted me yesterday from work saying, "Tomorrow is YOUR day!" It's YOUR day too Maurice!
I've never seen "The Big Fish". I'll have to add that to my list to watch.

Leonardo, I like to chalk it all up to the "American Graffiti" and "Twelve Angry Men" scripts as my first screenwriting/TV writing influences...but since joining Stage 32 in January 2019 (and Script Revolution that October), I've tried to learn from all the scripts I've read on the two platforms.
Happy Screenwriters Day, everybody!

It's nice to have a day, Leonardo Ramirez. I meant "Big Fish." Not "The Big Fish." Haha It's one of my favorite movies.

I just watched "48 Hrs." last night, Dan MaxXx. "The Warriors" is another one of my favorite movies. I heard way back that they were gonna make a sequel to "The Warriors" and set it in LA.

I think you can tell if it's a Tim Burton flick by the movie poster alone, Maurice Vaughan .

Prisoners by Aaron Guzikowski was the first screenplay I had ever read before seeing the movie that made me go "oh my God I have to see this movie ASAP ". That experience is my goal whenever I write.

@Leonardo Ramirez I would recommend doing what I did - read the screenplay first before watching the movie, to see the power of the writing separate from any visual cues, and then see how Denis Villeneuve translated it onscreen.

I wonder when Beetlejuice got married, Leonardo Ramirez. I heard the "Beetlejuice 2" trailer is dropping very soon. Hope so.

I'm curious as to how the marriage will be portrayed, Maurice Vaughan. Will they be lovebirds or be in a strained marriage? Plenty of comedic fodder for either.

Dogma is another one of those films that I have been wanting to see but haven't, Ashley Renee Smith.

I can see it going either way, Leonardo Ramirez. I want them to be lovebirds/partners in crime. I need to look up the "Beetlejuice" script.
