Curious to know - what has been the best (non-theatrical) revenue vehicle for your content in 2023? SVOD? AVOD? FAST? Or something completely different? Not looking for specific names, but rather the type of platform.
I've distributed indies on almost all platforms in the US and esp. abroad and have enjoyed varied successes. Curious to hear from producers/directors/creators and revenue challenges they've faced in 2023.

Wamiq Jawaid - I think the biggest challenge is for independent producers to find an honest company that make them money, no matter the platform. I see you are a sales agent, what do you find makes the most money?

Hey Stephen Folker funny you ask. Seems that performance-based platforms have yielded the best results for me. SVODs have become increasingly selective and don’t always pay you what you want - even if they show interest in your content. It’s a fickle game and becoming increasingly so.

Wamiq Jawaid yes it is. The system is broken and the days of Sales Agents taking all the filmmakers $$ is coming to an end. People are wisening up. Which platforms have you found are making the most? Could you name a couple?

its not the platforms. Its the marketing funds, of which we haven't any.

Joseph Bartone It's a bit of both.
Most of the platforms don't pay much and most filmmakers can distribute to without a middle-man. Marketing doesn't have to be expensive. Social media ads can be run for under $100 / month. The bigger issue is, most distributors have a marketing fee clause in their agreements wanting a recoupment of 10, 20 or 50k. In reality, they are not doing any marketing. It's just a way to make money off a filmmaker and never pay them.

Stephen Folker really, Stephen. I thought they went through a bad phase and the release of your ads were somehow restricted because of GDPR?

Geoff Hall don't know about all that, but I find Facebook ads work the best. Trial and error for everyone.
