Congratulations Jonathan. What was the inspiration for the movie?

Well.... it was basically written pre-'Friends' - I thought I'd make something like a heightened reality / fairytale about three girls living together and their love lives - with the central core being about the main girl turning 21 and moving on from her longterm/childhood boyfriend and his efforts to win her back... of course the inspiration being that a 24 year old me at the time had just been dumped by my longterm/childhood sweetheart shortly after her 21st... erm.... I also wanted to show off my home town of Brighton in a positive, sunny, shiny, happy way as all other British films at the time were about poverty / drug use etc... And all my movie making friends at the time were all making gangster films in the wake of Reservoir Dogs, so I thought I'd stand out by making a rom-com, kissing film.... which in hindsight may not have been the best idea. Anyway, it won a few awards, got a DVD release and a Sales Agent and did almost absolutely no business at all. Ah well...

Thank you, Mr Glendening. I will be sure to see SUMMER RAIN. Best wishes, Dale Reynolds, American screenwriter, play writer, in London. And I love Brighton. I have fond memories of the seaside city you describe.
