Introduce Yourself : This is me.. by Micke Askernäs

Micke Askernäs

This is me..

Hello all,

I was here very briefly some 8 months ago, left and now I'm back.

My name is Micke Askernäs. I'm 51 years old from Sweden. I currently label myself as an actor, a mentalist, a writer and a film maker. I also build replicas of movie props for fun...

My artist career as internationally award winning (ahem) Mentalist ended more or less in 2016 when I had to retire myself.

My daughter, Emma, got diagnosed with fatal brain cancer.

I spent the next three years searching around the world for something that could buy us more time.

Unfortunately, no one has beaten this particular kind.

Ever.

There is a big story there, for sure, but not one I am ready to write.

So, in 2021, two years after I held my daughters hand for the last time, I decided I needed to start doing something for myself, which led me to seriously study acting, something I still do.

In the course of doing that, we had a wonderful writer as a teacher. Bob Dolman, who really inspired at least me to start writing.

And start I did.

I wrote two short movies with myself in 4 different roles, I directed, filmed, edited and did everything. I then wrote the final project at our acting school, which I also directed and edited (with 5 actors in the roles), and since then, I've been working on writing quite a lot.

To this date, I've finished a TV Pilot script of a series that we will try and pitch sometime, I've also just finished a feature film horror screenplay.

I also have two more feature film screenplays in progress, while still doing some theatre work, still have a daytime job (gotta pay them bills) and still together with my girlfriend (Emma's mother).

So, perhaps I am filling my time with things to not have to think.

But guess what? As long as I fill my time with creativity, I'm ok with this being my escape.

And those screenplays? I wrote them. I think they are good, and other people who have read them seem to like them, but I have no idea what the next step is...

Looking forward to networking and getting to meet other creative individuals on here!

For whatever it's worth, my story, White Lily, deals with finding purpose in the face of death.

Welcome back, Micke Askernäs. Great showreel! You could post it in the Video/Audio section of your profile if you like. That's a way to get more eyes on your reel.

Congratulations on your consistent stumbles into cinematic success!! My mother’s death started my writing ventures—nothing heals like writing—even through those losses one carries close to the heart for a lifetime. You have much wisdom to share. All the best! Good luck with your pitch tomorrow!
