Looking for feedback - Short horror film

Some friends and I created this short horror film over a couple of days and I would be absolutely thrilled to receive any kind of feedback from the filmmaking community:

I am looking to improve my horror filmmaking chops, so please be as brutally honest as possible. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch!

Great to meet you, Stephen Robinson. I'm not a filmmaker, but from a fan's POV, this movie is incredible! It's scary, creepy, intense and it makes the audience ask themselves the question, "what would I do in that situation?" Fantastic production value, shots, music, and practical effects! You and your friends did an excellent job!

@Stephen Thanks for the share. Acting so believable! The relationship line was poignant, he was willing for the changeling to bite his head off at one point. I like the angle from looking “down” stairs at protagonist shot, I’m a fan of noir distorted angles, does not always have to be smooth but instead show frame of someone’s mind. At start the wall of what we think a garage is eerie but maybe see a close up of your trepidation or back view hand on a tool. Story is a family with a dark existence but we only see their name on the tapestry end credits. Instead I’d weave the hook “family secret” into dialogue and props very early on. Just small seeds. EG Portraits along a wall with new family members less & less/some figures darkened. Dialogue for stakes EG “Damn you! I cannot let you reach our village again, not this time.” Protagonist’s battle is within himself, can he or can’t he kill his own which he portrays superbly. Maybe a tad more dialogue than at present “I can’t do this,” before forced to face the final crucible and let the monster live. Maybe see more of the jailor’s cage the protagonist’s sealed fate. Add more types of camera shots but really cool work! Anything you want to discuss message me!

@Maurice Yeah I agree the movie is incredible but I gave the above advice cos to turn into a bigger film it would need more storyline.

Maurice Vaughan

Great advice, Debbie Croysdale! I can see this being a feature.

Great work! Looks good, the practical effects are amazing!! Needs better sound design and the score doesn't fit. I think if you ramp up those two spots you're golden!

Stephen Robinson

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it!
