‘Road House’ Lands Amazon’s Biggest Movie Streaming Debut

Got to watch Road House this weekend. I am a huge fan of the original (yes, I know I'm not exactly the target audience :) I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. My biggest issue with it was that I felt Conor McGregor had WAY too much screentime. I get why they did it and it was a specific way to bring the remake into the current time, I just wished they had made a different choice. When it comes to remakes - what are your thoughts? Stick close to the original script and story or take the essence of it and make new choices?

The company says the film attracted 50 million viewers, though it did not clarify what constitutes a view.
Sergio Cardenas

I’m surprised that the remake is better than the original film if you ask me.

Wal Friman

My thoughts on remakes is the same as when covering songs. Respect the original and put your own stamp on it by improving some well chosen moments.

Dan MaxXx

The movie is awful. JG's Dalton has the charm of a golf ball. Plain.

Maurice Vaughan

That's A LOT of views, Niki H! I haven't seen the remake yet. I watched the trailer though. It doesn't look like it'll live up to the original movie story wise, but the remake looks fun. I'll probably check it out.

"Stick close to the original script and story or take the essence of it and make new choices?" A mix.

Amanda Toney

I wonder how involved Connor’s agent was in negotiating more pages/more screen time. Glad you enjoyed it!

Joe Nendza

I thought the remake was OK but the casting of Conor McGregor was a mistake. I did not enjoy his addition into the story and think there are so many talented actors who could have played the “Heavy.”

Dustin Richardson

They better never remake Ghost! I'm just saying... No actor can play a Patrick Swayze character better than Patrick Swayze. They already remade Point Break, Red Dawn, and now Roadhouse... I really like some remakes. It depends on the original movies. For instance, The Italian Job (2003) is far superior to The Italian Job (1969). However, Poltergeist (1982) is far superior to Poltergeist (2015). Some films have no reason to be remade except to profit from the title. I think it depends on the original's quality and the remake's point. I'm looking forward to the remake of Highlander because I bet they can do some pretty amazing stuff with that concept with modern effects.

I agree Joe - even as a psychopath Conor's acting was painful. Dustin, I can't bear the thought of a Ghost remake. I am also looking forward to the Highlander remake! "Respect the original and put your own stamp on it" is a great way to approach a remake.

Preston Poulter

Pain don't hurt.

Pete Conrad

I couldn't finish watching it.

John O'Hern

I decided it was a full on comedy/farce and let it go at that. Felt like a dumbed down Clint Eastwood film.

Daniel Goudreau

Dustin Richardson remember Swayze in Youngblood and the Outsiders? I love that early Swayze. Maybe even the roller disco dancing thing he did way back then, too.

Dustin Richardson

Yes, Daniel Goudreau! The Outsiders is phenomenal! I watched the Full Novel director's cut recently and loved it. It's even better than the theatrical release.

Daniel Goudreau

It just struck me that Jake is now the absolute perfect A-Lister to play Sgt. ROCK. I was reading a 70's issue and by god Sgt. ROCK had Jake's intense eye stare thing and it's so obvious that ol' Jarhead himself would be the perfect Rock of Easy Company.
