Your Stage : Last Knights in Paris by Ann McDowell

Last Knights in Paris

I did a lot of research for this project but I know I'll never do anything with it. I am willing to hand everything off with no strings attached. This is the story:

During WW1 the Lafayette Escadrille was a group of Americans that flew with the French Foreign Legion. This is not their story directly during the war but a year after the war has ended. They gather in a Paris nightclub owned by one of their own to reminisce about what happened during the war and their lives after. This was inspired by the last few chapters of the book American Fighters in the Foreign Legion 1914-1918 by Paul Ayers Rockwell published in 1930. ($1.99 Amazon Kindle download. The Kindle app for the computer is free.)

They are referred to as modern knights because they fought with bravery, bravado and respect for their German counterparts. Many were awarded medals by France and later some by the US. However, after the US entered the war only a few were allowed to fly for their country. Some were given desk jobs and others sent home to face ridicule for not supporting their country. My take on this is not anti-war or anti-US just their story of being the last knights.

Since this takes place in a nightclub run by The Black Sparrow – the first Black fighter pilot – there is a reason for lots of blues music.

I have books, notes, and print outs from books. It’s all yours if you want to tell their story.
