Francis Coppola is in the news with his latest film, MEGALOPOLIS, scheduled to premiere at Cannes. Consequently, I've been thinking about him a lot lately. Below is a glimpse of his process when he worked on THE GODFATHER. One gets a sense of why he is a true master filmmaker. I wonder how his process for MEGALOPOLIS compares to THE GODFATHER. Also, notice behind his head on the bookshelf are the volumes of Edward Gibbons' magnum opus, "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire." I'll bet reading that at some point years ago factored into Coppola's preparation of MEGALOPOLIS.
