Introduce Yourself : Hi from sunny Essex by Ben Trebilcook

Ben Trebilcook

Hi from sunny Essex

Been a while since posting, but felt compelled having seen old friends RB and Amanda in Cannes. I’m so proud of what they have achieved and their want to help others in this ever changing industry. To also have seen Stage32 grow from the outset. So, here’s me, Ben, from the UK. A screenwriter and author and sometime producer. I’ve been represented in the US and China and now for the first time since I started writing 25 plus years ago.. in the UK. I can be found on the usual socials. Wishing you all well.

Maurice Vaughan

Congratulations on the very successful careers, Ben Trebilcook! How's Cannes?

Ben Trebilcook

I’m not in Cannes. I did my ten year or so sentence there many moons ago! It’s a great place. An exhausting place. An expensive place. A fun place. All sorts there to believe and disbelieve and to be suckered in by or to triumph. You can see films and professionals you may not otherwise get to see or meet in any other situation. This is a networking business and Cannes is definitely the place for just that.

Maurice Vaughan

Oh ok, Ben Trebilcook. I thought you meant you felt compelled to post again having seen RB and Amanda in Cannes this year. Cannes sounds incredible. Except the expensive and exhausting parts. Haha

How's your female driven spy project doing? If you can talk about it.

Ben Trebilcook

Ah, yes, I can see where confusion can be had. The spy movie was going ahead in Indonesia but then Covid happened. Who would have thought that a film about a biological weapon made in China that becomes a global threat would be halted due to um.. Anyway, it’s still with my friend, Mario Kassar, and we’d love it to get going again, or reworked a little.

Maurice Vaughan

Aw man, Ben Trebilcook. Sorry to hear that. Mario Kassar produced some of my favorite movies, like "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" and "Universal Soldier." Hope you guys get your project going again.

Ben Trebilcook

Thanks dude! Keep spinning those plates! Talk soon and success to you

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Ben Trebilcook. Thanks. Success to you too. Looking forward to talking again soon.

Ben Trebilcook

Below is from a profile on one of my socials. I’m currently seeking new representation. I am currently repped in the UK. Actually, prior to this I had never had a UK agent despite being from and living in the UK. I’ve had management and attorney representation in LA, Australia and China and am now looking to go elsewhere. I'm a multi-faceted creative professional with a passion for storytelling in both film and television. Represented by WGM ATLANTIC and guided by the talented Madeleine Cotter and Nicky Lovick and was previously represented by WME China, under Rick Yan and Jasmine Gao. Projects: Writing Accomplishments: I've authored four captivating novels: "My Name Is Not Jacob Ramsay," "Old Habits," "Daisy Scarlett," and the latest detective novel, "Down & Under." My work spans various genres, from espionage thrillers to detective mysteries. "Old Habits" even formed the basis for the acclaimed Die Hard 6 script. A first draft of Mission: Impossible 3, based on my own original screenplay, back in 2001 for Cruise/Wagner Productions and recently, the award winning, dementia centred short - You Know Me, directed by the late Darren Kent. Film and Television: With over two decades of experience in the industry, I've contributed to global corporate video films and penned engaging scripts for feature films and television. Notably, my speculative script "Old Habits Die Hard" (also known as "Die Hardest") gained international attention for its fresh take on the Die Hard franchise and a female driven spy project is currently with my friend, legendary producer Mario Kassar. Professional Background: In addition to my creative work, I've spent 20 years managing and teaching challenging young individuals and mentoring as a qualified counsellor. I've collaborated closely with educational professionals, social workers, psychologists, therapists, police and security services , to support the well-being and education of vulnerable young people, including young offenders, substance abusers, and those with various learning barriers. I also work for the Ministry of Justice. Diverse Freelance Experience: My journey has led me to freelancing for established publications like Emap (Empire / Heat) and Express newspapers, as well as working in the pharmaceutical industry and contributing to online film sites. Making a Difference: I've been an active part of initiatives like The Rob Knox Film Festival, where I served as a judge for a decade. This role allowed me to promote community cohesion, stand against knife crime, and encourage aspiring filmmakers. Personal Life: I'm a proud father and reside in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Feel free to connect and explore the exciting world of creativity with me!

PS: thanks RB
