Screenwriting : How to "get there." by Kevin Enners

Kevin Enners

How to "get there."

I have been learned how to hone the craft of screenwriting. I have earned a master's in school. I know how the cake is baked. Now, I would like to sell that cake. How do I set up shop?

Maurice Vaughan

First you gotta make a business plan for your bakery shop, Kevin Enners, then you gotta... Haha

Network/build relationships. It's the most important thing in my opinion. Here are some blogs on networking: www.stage32.com/blog/tags/networking-41

Are you a member of Stage 32's Writers' Room? Yolanda Lee will be having a 24-hour AMA in the Writers’ Room Lounge tomorrow. Here's more info about the AMA: www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting/FRIDAY-MAY-24-AMA-with-Yolanda-Lee-...

You could also enter contests that'll get you and your script in front of producers, agents, etc. Like Stage 32's contests (www.stage32.com/scriptservices/contests).

You’ll need more than one cake ready to go! 4 or 5 to see and share.

What did your college professor say to do? A lot of us are still waiting for the sale to change our lives. Might never come but whatever. Aim for year 2025-6. Year 2024 is over.

Join websites of those who actually work in the industry & give free and sometimes interactive advice on strategy on craft itself and visibility from marketing to setting up own E book generator. EG Bang2Write, Lucy V Hay @gointothestory.com. Scott Myers.

Also going Transmedia need not be expensive to those who can juggle codes and social media apps. Ideas become an Eco System of content instead of pages in a slug pile. Quoting Houston Howard, "Make your story really stinking big."

Great question Kevin Enners - hit me up at Sucess@stage32.com - I am the Writer Consultant and can help you put together a strategy. Just start by sending your loglines and genres and we'll figure out a plan of attack.

First thing is learn how to proofread. "I have been learned,...." Really?

Craig D Griffiths

I am going to stick with your cake metaphor.

So do you run the shop or do you have a sales person, let’s call them an agent? I would say your shop isn’t turnover enough yet for staff.

So are you focusing on a stall in the park on weekends selling to people walking by. Micro and low budget filmmakers.

Are you look at exotic cakes with glazed meats. Perhaps that will appeal to an overseas market?

Are you trying to sell to Five Star restaurants that have existing pastry chefs. Let’s call them Studios.

So how would you approach these?

The only advice is that you’ll need an intro for the five stars.

Arthur Charpentier

hello! First of all, I think you should stop making up stories about writers.

Richard Buzzell

I agree with Arthur. Stories about writers are generally not well-received in this industry.
