I started screenwriting late 2021 and I'm now a full-on addict. My scripts have received numerous accolades on Coverfly and those and a fiver will get me a cup of coffee at Starbucks. This year I decided to stop entering competitions and work on meeting people who could actually turn one of my scripts into a movie. These efforts have ranged from volunteering at film festivals to submitting to OWA's on sites like Stage 32. I am now connected with several producers and I'm excited to report that two of my scripts were just selected for submission to a producer through OWA's on Stage 32. While I don't regret entering competitions, I see them mostly as a way to validate that you're not writing crap. After all, with the thousands of scripts submitted, only one can win so even a perfect script is likely to lose. It's perseverance and connecting to film makers that I believe will get your script to finish line.

Paul Sokal Contests are great, but networking is at the top of my list when it comes to making connections, selling scripts, etc. Congratulations on all the success you've had through Stage 32 and volunteering at film festivals! Hope you have more!

Congrats, this is very inspiring! I started screenwriting around the same time and entered my first competition in 2022 and won 3rd place, but since then I lost a bit of motivation and haven't finished any of my new scripts. I'd like to start working on them again and enter new competitions, even if they're not big competitions (only what my budget allows). This year I actually got my first screenplay into production, and I was genuinely surprised someone found me on here and thought my stuff was interesting enough to buy it from me. It's nice seeing people who are fairly new to the industry get their first wins and meet people with the same passions!
