Introduce Yourself : Hello From Hong Kong, by Michael A. Clement

Hello From Hong Kong,

I’m originally from San Diego, California, but I’ve lived in Hong Kong since 2006. A few years ago, I retired, got bored, and decided to write science-fiction stories as a hobby. On Amazon, I've self-published five books and one collection of short stories, Cosmic Portal, of which one story, “Killing Hitler,” was accepted by the Hong Kong Writers Circle for publication in the Q4 (December) issue of their magazine “The Apostrophe.”

And I contributed two short stories, "My Life Sucks" and "We, Robots,” to the 2024 SciFi Anthology: The Science Fiction Novelists. (The book is now #13 in Science-Fiction Anthologies on Amazon Kindle, with a 3.9/5.0 rating.)

Now that Covid is over, I’m back to traveling. I’ve just returned from a month in California, where I met many extraterrestrials that I plan to write about, including one who purchased a copy of Cosmic Portal. Actually, there are a lot of aliens in Hong Kong. They’re everywhere. I know they’re watching me, so I’ve been writing about them, too. Stay tuned...

Hey, Michael A. Clement. What were the extraterrestrials in CA like?

Michael A. Clement

Maurice Vaughan The aliens were very laid back. And for some reason, I only saw them in pubs? But on a more serious note, the life experiences I get from traveling help me write. Not to get too philosophical, but one’s writings are greatly shaped by, if not a reflection of, his/her life experiences. I think of my short story, “Writer’s Block,” from my collection “Cosmic Portal,” which I wrote while watching the aquatic events unfolding on a Thai beach.

Our trip was good. We visited relatives in Bishop, CA. I saw my 93-year-old aunt. We visited a movie museum (hundreds of movies, mainly Westerns, were filmed in the area), saw 1,500-year-old Indian petroglyphs, and visited a museum at an old WWII Japanese internment camp. Then Las Vegas, where we went to a Barry Manilow concert and had great food at the NY/NY hotel, where we stayed. Next, we went to San Diego to visit my brother and his family. We stayed in the Old Town section. We went sailing on San Diego harbor and visited old friends. Next, the town of Julian located in the mountains near San Diego, where I toured an old 1800s gold mine. Then, Palm Springs, which was hot as hell. We went to a street fair and an Indian museum (the history of the area and its indigenous people), which were both nice. Finished in Beverly Hills. We visited the La Brea Tar Pits and the Getty Center / Art Museum, which was amazing. Overall, 31 days of fun and a lot of driving.

Laid-back CA aliens. I can see that, Michael A. Clement.

You all had a really great time! Speaking of "Palm Springs," I still have to watch the movie and read the script.

"One’s writings are greatly shaped by, if not a reflection of, his/her life experiences." You're right. I write about things I've experienced. Sometimes without realizing until later on.

Michael A. Clement, it sounds like you have some cool stuff going on. I have published one book on Amazon and am about to publish my second. How do you feel your sales are doing, and what type of marketing do you do to get eyeballs on your books?

Jill Godley

Sounds like a lot of fun and cool stuff.

Michael A. Clement

Brian Smith Sales haven't been great, but to be honest, I have not done much marketing lately. I mainly do the free ebook downloads (I've got one planned for Father's Day) and then promote them on Facebook (both at my author site--see link above--site and various groups) and on LinkedIn.

Same here Michael A. Clement I live in Guatemala and love it here and your ET experiences are really intriguing.
