What a remarkable, varied career. Elevated so many films. Charm and class in abundance.
I once heard someone refer to him as one the most underrated, versatile actors ever because they wanted to put him in a box - as Hollywood is prone to do - but he wouldn't let them put him in a box. A lesson for all.

Agreed. And his portrayal of President Snow in the Hunger Games franchise is one of my favorite villains in a long time. He’s subtle, but terrifying. Which is not an easy thing to do.

My condolences to Donald's friends and family, Richard "RB" Botto. My favorite Donald Sutherland role was Matthew Bennell in INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS.

Such an incredible career. The original Hawkeye Pierce in Robert Altman’s MASH. Such a great performance in KLUTE. His turns in ANIMAL HOUSE, JFK, ORDINARY PEOPLE and so many others it’s impossible to count. And only got better and better. RIP to one of the best there ever was.

My sister was working at an Ikea when she met him. She told me that she said to him how creepy she thought Kiefer Sutherland is and she says that he said, "Yeah...he does play a good villain, doesn't he?" My fandom of Donald Sutherland goes as far back as the feature film version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." (I'm telling my age by citing my knowledge that it was a movie before it was a tv series lol) but his career was much longer and much more prolific.
