Screenwriting : Different pitch results for the same script by Martin Foroz

Different pitch results for the same script

Hi, dear all. I'm writing to share my pitching experience and see what you think about yours. Thanks to Stage 32 pitch sessions, I have pitched 8 consultants so far and I have received quite different ratings for a single feature on the Scorecard.

Regarding "pitch format," for instance that I downloaded from Stage32, I received 2, 3, 4, and 5 from four different consultants. Also different ratings on other features for that matter. One consultant rated the "clarity of pitch" 5 while another rated it 2. Or, one consultant expressed their high satisfaction with the content while another one likened the pitch to a thesis paper! A consultant liked character development and another said he could not relate to any of the characters. That's while my screenplay has so far been nominated by one international film festival and selected by two others- I already shared this on my wall.

Of course, this may be related to the consultants' areas of interest, experience, age, gender, the time of their review, and the number of pitches they have to manage in a round. This has been an interesting piece of research for me and I am going to book more pitch sessions to estimate the inter-rater reliability of the ratings.

Anyhow, I infer from the pitch sessions that we should make much of the consultants' "shared" feedback and move on without getting too delighted or disappointed with low or high ratings. Just fight your way through if you think your script is well-developed and in line with one of the many screenplay categories that Robert McKee explains in his book "Story". Don't lose your faith in your work while enjoying the very different opinions of pitch consultants. Consultants provide their personal views based on their own professional experience, which is appreciated.

By the way, I'll continue pitching as much as I can :)

Hi, Martin Foroz. Different things like a person's area of interest, experience, etc. do affect feedback, I've had a few Pitch Sessions on here, and the feedback helped me improve my pitches. Two executives gave me the same note, so I really focused on fixing that issue in my pitch.
