It's a shame to see it go. I went to Sibelius in 2005 because I started taking lessons from Dave Blumberg and he used it and it was just easier to exchange "paper" that way. Sometimes I think of going to Dorico, but haven't done it yet.

I saw the news today on Dorico’s FB page : network: it’s kind of sad, .. I really didn’t expect this to happen. I’ve been a Sibelius user since version two. Then about 5-6 years ago, I saw Dorico advertised in a Sweetwater magazine sent to the house. I’m like. What’s this? I asked Engela Fullard Sibelius if she knew about it.
She said - yes, some Sibelius programmers are leaving and making something else.
I investigated and made the change since the beginning.
My music notation story.
I think the article said or someone in the feed said the profits aren’t so high between the 3 notation programs. Still, … Finale has been around for so long. Sure hope the transition is good for the strong follower from Finale. I’m able to help some, though time is of the essence for important changes in my life, also.

I am still on SIbelius 7 and the last I heard current version of Sibelius still does not support VST3 - am I wrong? I will not upgrade without VST3 support. I have all this Native Instrument Kontakt stuff but it requires VST3. Last time I tried I hacked into VST3 and my VST2 instruments stopped working.
I'll hang in there as long as I don't get some paying gigs that need the unused VST3 stuff. If we go into 2025 with no VST3 support, I am seriously considering moving to Dorico if it can support both VST2 and VST3 together.

John Barron texted me about the upgrade price to v. 5 - before the rate went up again a few months ago. Ha ha … nice to know some of the people at Steinway. I didn’t know v5 would work on the Intel chip I had in the 2020 iMac. Most of the marketing text I saw was it ran on the new M chip. More good things to know about version 5. I would do some more research, Linwood Bell - before upgrading. Hope this information helps some decisions this year.

Kerry - I know about dorico vst3 support - the question is whether I can use the newer VST3 samples I have with Kontakt 7 along with Native Instrument Komplete 13 and some of my older samples which I use under VST2 both at he same time. I want to pick and chose from both sets and combine them together.

Kerry Kennard There is no problem at all. Just showing that I’m moving from Sibelius. Everything is up and running and I look forward to diving into the program once I put a couple things to bed. Probably week after next.

I’m really liking Dorico. I watched several tutorials. Some from them and I grabbed the Groove 3 and Udemy courses. I did my first arr using Dorico this week and it went pretty smooth. Took me longer than if I’d used Sibelius because I don’t have the key commands memorized yet. So things that I wanted to do I’d have to google or refer to the vids again, but I’m happy with the experience of it. One thing that got me right off the bat was working in the full score and then hitting “w” to look at parts. The parts from jump looked pretty darn good. Sure, if I was handing them out to players there was tweaking to do, but I printed them all out so I could play it in and I didn’t tweak anything and it was great for that. I can see that I can prepare charts much faster than usual. Plus the stock samples are better sounding to me. I have Note Performer, but haven’t tried it yet in Dorico. Glad I made the purchase. :)

Linwood Bell - try the drop down for each different part.
Yes, Dorico seems faster and cleaner / has less hit problems than Sibelius 7.5.
W - huh ? Hmm have not heard about this Key command for Showing parts. I usually use the Drop down menu to go to each instrument.
The version 5.1 manual is always helpful as well.
You can find the manual from Steinberg, I doing a Google search on it. I have it - if you need a copy.
Can I email it to you ?
Yes, some of Dorico’s HALion sounds are really nice! One of the Sax sounds has the real nice flutter nuances as well as the slide effect between notes. There’s the actual noise too - adjustable to your liking.

Thanks...I've got it all. :) The "w" key command was used in Sibelius for parts as well. I've still got an active Sibelius license for almost another year. I've got 20 years worth of "stuff" written in it that I need to deal with. I'll batch export to xml and be done with it. Lotta stuff to organize in the next few months and no joy in doing it.
Here's what I did in Dorico, btw. I played rhodes, bass, and drums in digital performer along with the vocal. ( That's my friend, Elisa. She was a bg singer for Prince.) Then I exported that midi to Dorico and wrote the chart there. Then printed it all out and played those parts back into DP and bingo. In Sibelius I use to be able to just bounce an mp3 and import that into Sibelius and write against it and that way I could hear the vocal as you're writing the chart. I don't think you can do that in Dorico (?) I tried, but couldn't figure it out. In .sib you just import it like you would a movie and it worked. It's a nice touch. https://www.linwoodbell.com/clientdownloads/Love%20Dance.mp3
