I just entered the Search for New Blood Screenwriting Contest
2024. It's been a long, hard week at work. After submitting my entry, I looked over the PDF only to find a few mistakes... a repeated word... etc. I know it's no excuse... but I was shattered and rushed to get it in. How badly will these typos cost me? I'm quite gutted that such simple mistakes made it past me.

Depends where they are. If the reader bumps into one when she sees your amazing visuals in her head she won't let them bother at all.

I'm not doing contests (outside the top 5) anymore, but one thing I always looked for is a resubmit policy that allows it up to certain date/time. Maybe contact the comps director/staff to ask about replacing the draft. Otherwise, I'm with Wal Friman on this. A few typos won't (shouldn't) sink a well written, engaging script ;-)

If it makes you feel better -- I did the same thing. I'd image it's very common. Not sure how much it matters.
