It's been a few months, so I'll introduce myself. I've been on Stage32 for a few years and always get a lot out of it.
My interest as a screenwriter is in writing drama, historical, biopic, adaptations, family, or rom-com. It sounds like a wide net, but it mostly boils down to an exploration of the friction between two people. That could be about competition, jealousy, mentorship, legacy or other -- even love, sometimes.

Hi, Lise Pyles. Hope your fall is going great! I like writing friction between characters. Sometimes a scene is too plain, and I'll add friction to give it more flavor. I also like to throw in things like misunderstandings and secrets to add more flavor.

I think writing the moments between two characters is the heart of what we do. If your characters aren't shining on the page, people won't be invested in the plot.

Thanks, Maurice. May we all find plenty of spice for our scripts.
You're welcome, Lise Pyles. Plenty of spice. I like that! I'm working on a script for November Write Club, and one of the scenes was bland. I added some spice to it, but I need to add some more spices. Happy writing!
