Introduce Yourself : The Dancing Filmmaker by Vital Butinar

The Dancing Filmmaker

Hey everyone,

Hope you’re all doing well!

I’m really excited because I just started teaching salsa dance classes again for the first time in a couple of years yesterday and had a really great time getting back into it!

On the filmmaking side, I’ve been hard at work developing the screenplay for my sci-fi film The Procedure.

I’ve been putting together materials like pitch decks and a promo reel.

The project’s music score is coming together beautifully, thanks to my awesome next-door neighbor who composed it! He has composed a lot of music and some of it for films and documentaries. So I feel rally lucky that he decided to get involved in the project.

Right now, we're focused on finding the right producer to help bring this film to life.

We’ve been chatting with a few people, but I’m still on the lookout for someone who really clicks with the vision.

Anyway how’s everyone else doing these days? What interesting projects are you working on? I’d love to hear about them!

Have a great rest of the weekend,

Vital

Welcome! I’m Brandy and I work on the Member Help team. Check out the Script Services tab. Pitch Sessions are a great networking opportunity and a great chance to get your work in front of some great minds in the business.

Nick Phillips

That's so cool that you found a trusted collaborator who lives just next store! You never know where you'll find a good composer!

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Vital Butinar. It's great to see you again, my friend! Congratulations on the progress with the projects! I didn't know you taught salsa dance. Salsa dancing looks fun.

I finished my second goal for Stage 32's November Write Club (outline and write a Horror Comedy short script called Ghost Roach). My main goal is to finish a feature script that I already outlined (a script draft that's in shape to get feedback on). I'm on page 45. My third goal is to outline a feature script. I figured out what script I'm gonna outline.

Vital Butinar

Brandy Camille thank you. Unfortunately right now just paying the heating is a problem and last time I tried a service it didn't go well and I just lost over a hundred bucks. So unfortunately all the non essentials are off the table and I need to find a different way to get my work in front of someone. But thank you anyway.

Vital Butinar

Nick Phillips yeah and we didn't even know for a while. It's awesome and the guy is a genius, he showed me a lot of the music he's done for films and it's really great and he said that he had been wanting to get back to making music for films for a while now. He said he might know someone and connect us, so that's great too.

Vital Butinar

Hey Maurice Vaughan. Nice to see you too! That's great, I hope you get to reach your goal! The horror comedy sounds cool! I wish I could join you guys in the writers room but it's out of reach right now.

But I've been working on my screenplay and a couple of new ones, which is also great.

You know going to a salsa class 20 years ago was one of the best things I could have done. It literally changed my life for the better because I got too hang out with some really cool and great people and have fun. Along the way I took it a little more seriously and was in a couple of performance groups and we took it really seriously. Then I got the honor of being able to teach at the same dance school where I started. Unfortunately covid killed off a lot of the salsa scene. I didn't have classes since then.

But now when we moved a local dance school reached out to me and asked if I wanted to teach again and it was awesome hanging out with great people again and having fun.

Funny thing was we also got to make a music video for a musician that I met there, so that's great too. :)

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Vital Butinar. Ghost Roach was fun to write. It's like Joe's Apartment meets Beetlejuice.

I'm glad to hear you're back teaching salsa dance classes!

Sorry you lost over a hundred bucks. Hope the situation with the heating works out!

Is the music video online?

Vital Butinar

Maurice Vaughan oh that's cool when you have fun writing. :)

I had that much fun writing The Procedure. I had always had a kind of respect with writing sci fi and was actually just hoping an opportunity would appear for me to try and I love it. Hope I'll get to write more cool stories like this, but even more I hope that I eventually get to shoot one. :)

Yeah thankfully we use firewood and I've cut enough to last through the winter, so we should be good, but like you know working in the creative fields has it's ups and downs.

Yeah, the video is up, but the lyrics are in Slovenian so you'll probably not be able to understand much.

The record label and the artist were super happy, the artist said "I just want it to look like a Barilla commercial".

Thanks for posting the link, Vital ButinarI couldn't understand the words, but the music and video are incredible! Beautiful video!

Have you checked Stage 32's Job Board for writing jobs (www.stage32.com/find-jobs)? The Job Board is updated regularly.

Vital Butinar

Thanks Maurice Vaughan.

Yeah it was a fun one day project and there were just four of us. Me directing, Leya shooting, Blaz who took care of the lighting and Gregor who's usually our producer when we do corporate videos but this time wanted to be an assistant. He said he loved helping out and we had fun. I love that our shoots are always fun and not a pain.

Oh I check out the job board a lot and I'm usually looking for editing gigs, because I can do that remotely. But haven't had much luck for narrative stuff.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Vital Butinar. Hope you find a job(s) on the Job Board!
