Introduce Yourself : Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! by Vital Butinar

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Hey everyone, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! As the year winds down, I’ve been reflecting on projects old and new. I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a comedy feature called Pure Vortex, which could be a lot of fun! But a lot of work with no budget. Right now, though, my main focus is on my sci-fi film The Procedure. We’re planning to create a proof-of-concept trailer to really bring the vision to life. I'd really like to get a feature film off the ground. On top of that, I’ve been diving into Blender a little more, learning more about VFX and CGI, which has been a fascinating experience and a great way to expand my skill set. I've done compositing before and I used to do 3D design, but never really merged the two. Wishing you all a season full of joy, creativity, and success! I've been with Stage 32 for a couple of years now and have met some cool people. What projects are you guys diving into as we head into the new year? Let’s connect! Cheers, Vital

Maurice Vaughan

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Vital Butinar! I'm rewriting a feature script that I wrote during Stage 32's November Write Club. I'm also working on a short script.

Sandra Isabel Correia

Vital Butinar Happy Hollidays and Happy New Year! After doing a Stage 32 Pitch Deck Coverage, my goal is to improve it and make it better with the notes I received! My script for now it’s on four final draft version, so I am producing the package :)) I wish you an amazing creative New Year :))

Vital Butinar

Maurice Vaughan thank you. Oh that's great! I wish I could participate in the writers room, but can never seem to afford it from more than a trail, then I'm afraid I'd be really bummed out if I couldn't anymore.

What kind of short are you writing?

Vital Butinar

Hey Sandra Isabel Correia thank you and the same to you. Nice to meet you. I'm interested how did you find the pitch deck course? It's always good to improve pitch decks.

I actually have pitch packages for all my projects that I've written. I even created short animatic videos as a kind of sizzle reel.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Vital Butinar. It's a Holiday Horror/Comedy short script.

Sandra Isabel Correia

I did my pitch deck alone, but I knew it needed to be better. The Stage 32 pitch deck coverage was really good because the producer gave me really good insights. Now, I know that I will go from “good” to “excellent” :)) What I found more interesting is that we can use lots of images and play with them for world building, tone, characters, actors and much more. Wow, I like that Vital Butinar , short animatic videos, you are doing very well! Nice to meet you :))

Maria Caeiro

Hi, I´m Maria and I´m about to have at least one script written, and I can´t wait to live these exciting moments of pitch decks you are talking about, I have so much to learn! I´m new in writing scripts and I love it. Little did I know one year ago that I would be writing stories:)

Vital Butinar

Maurice Vaughan that's great. I haven't written or shot any shorts in a while. Oh no we shot a short scene just for the fun of it a couple of weeks ago because I wanted to try something.

Vital Butinar

Sandra Isabel Correia well I yeah I've been playing around with trying to create cinematic images that approximate what my vision is for the film and then I figured that I could create a video out of it. My neighbor who's a composer wrote a score and I did the rest. I've done similar stuff for some other of my screenplays.

Right now we're actually trying to figure out a way to shoot a proof of concept trailer, but since we don't really have any budget we need to figure out what do do with the equipment and knowledge that we've got.

Vital Butinar

Maria Caeiro nice to meet you and congrats on your screenplay. Yeah it's funny how fast it gets you. About five years ago I started writing my fist screenplay simply because I didn't have anyone to work with who would write. Now I've written five and a couple more are on the way.

Well they say all of this pitching material is a good thing, but I haven't had much luck with my films, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. There's only so much I can do on a really tight budget.

But I'm always the first to say that learning anything is a good thing and can never hram you. After all the only reason that I was able to get back to filmmaking is because I did so much stuff in between. :)

Maurice Vaughan

Shooting a scene to test out something sounds like a great idea, Vital Butinar. And who knows? The test scene could grow into a short film, feature, etc.

Vital Butinar

Maurice Vaughan oh yeah it became a whole scene and not just a simple shot. Which could be considered a micro short or something. The truth is I wanted to play around with a couple of LEDs that were gifted to me by a buddy and it felt like a shame to just waist all the 20 min prep for just one shot, so Leya and I shot a short scene.

The worst part was I was smoking a cigarette in the shot and I can't tell you how disgusting it was while the smoke was going into my eyes. I don't smoke but the scene looked like it needed a cigarette and I only have a pack of some old ones that were brought to me from Egipt or some place. I kept them only because we figured out that they look really cool on camera because of the dense smoke and glow.

The real surprise was actually how much I was able to clean up and make usable the sound, considering it was shot with a $20 lav mic remote system. :)
