So, I wrote a short script called “The Lies You Sold” and it’s a psychological horror based on the death of Brian Thompson. It is basically a vigilante story but with an entity posing as “We The People” in order to bring justice. My question is: Should I put it in my portfolio? Or is it too controversial? Because I don’t want my work to hinder my opportunities but I also want people to know I’m not afraid to push boundaries. ya know?

Hi, Makaila Armstrong. The body text of your post shows up in the Stage 32 app but not the web browser. I'm guessing you wrote the post in the app, so you might need to edit the post in a web browser. That way, the post will show up for members who get on Stage 32 with a browser. You can edit your post by clicking the downward arrow to the right of your name, selecting "Edit Post," and reposting the body text.
And I say put the short script in your portfolio. Some producers, directors, actors, etc. might want to read material that pushes boundaries.

In my experience Makaila, without fail, the stuff you think might be too controversial, boundary pushing, extreme, etc., is the stuff that people REALLY respond to.

Makaila, by all means put "The Lies You Sold" in your portfolio.
The more boundary-pushing, risk-taking material out there, the better.
Here's wishing you plenty of success in your screenwriting/TV-writing journey!

Artists are here to push boundaries and that takes bravado to do. You've every right to be nervous though, because it's a fundamentally scary thing to do, and sadly the industry is packed tight with people who are fear averse.
