FilmFestivals can be competitive - here's how to make your film stand out :
1. Unique Story : Tell a story that hasn't been told before, or offer a fresh perspective.
2. Polished Submission : Follow guidelines carefully; present your best version.
3. Engaging Trailer : Craft a compelling trailer that hooks festival selectors.
4. Focus on Emotional Connection : Films that evoke strong emotions often leave a lasting impression.
5. Networking : Build connections with festivals organisers and fellow filmmakers to increase visibility.
Dear Filmmakers, can't wait to hear your thoughts !
Hi, Vincent Weberink. What type of trailer should a filmmaker have for their film when submitting to festivals? A teaser trailer? An official trailer? A teaser and official trailer?

Hi Maurice Vaughan Great question. Ideally, a teaser trailer (30-60 seconds) works well for building intrigue early on, especially for festival submissions that allow additional promotional material. An official trailer (1-2 minutes) is more polished and provides a stronger narrative, making it great for wider promotion once the film is accepted.
Some festivals may prefer one over the other, so it's always worth checking submission guidelines. If possible, having both gives you flexibility to tailor your submission strategy.
What’s your approach when cutting trailers for festival submissions?
Thanks for the answer, Vincent Weberink. I'm not a filmmaker or editor. I was just curious.

Hi Maurice Vaughan I understand. Do you ever get involved in production as a screenwriter?
I'm learning about production so I can understand the industry better, Vincent Weberink.
