Filmmakers today rely on digital communities to spread the word. Here are 5 ways they use social media street teams:
1. Ambassador Programs – Engage fans as brand ambassadors to promote your film online.
2. Hashtag Campaigns – Use #BrandedHashtags to boost awareness and encourage user-generated content.
3. Review & Rating Drives – Get fans to leave reviews on IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and Letterboxd.
4. Meme & Clip Sharing – Distribute short clips and memes for viral engagement.
5. TikTok & Reels Challenges – Leverage short-form video trends to drive buzz.

Great ideas, Vincent Weberink! Having a social media street team can really help get the word out about a film (or show, podcast, etc.). And filmmakers could reward the street team with things like movie posters, DVDs, merch, exclusive Q&As, tickets to screenings, etc.

Thanks, Maurice Vaughan . Absolutely. It also helps build a loyal community around the film. Have you seen any particularly effective examples of this in action?

You're welcome, Vincent Weberink. I've seen filmmakers give out movie posters and things and invite people to exclusive Q&As on social media, but I'm not sure if it had to do with street teams or if the filmmakers did it just to promote their films to people and connect with fans.

Maurice Vaughan That makes sense—sometimes these efforts overlap with general promotion rather than structured street teams. But even without a formal team, engaging fans directly through rewards and Q&As can still be a powerful way to build momentum. I am not aware of film makers doing this, this specifically, however.
