Introduce Yourself : My second book of Short Stories by Khawar Sohail Siddiqui

My second book of Short Stories

Hello Folks! My name is Sohail and I am a research scientist in the field of biology. I live in Sydney, Australia. After "Animal Fairy Tales for all Ages," I present my second book. My second book contains 22 stories covering science fiction, murder mysteries, action and political thrillers and paranormal. It is published by lulu worldwide and Pothi, India.

Hi, Khawar Sohail Siddiqui. I hope you're doing great. Congratulations on Animal Fairy Tales for all Ages getting published! What was it like writing a book with 22 stories? Do you have any advice for writers that want to write one?

Khawar Sohail Siddiqui

Hi!

Thanks for inviting me for my thoughts. During the COVID-19 lockdown, with my biology research temporarily on hold, I found myself with a rare gift—free time. That’s when I decided to bring to life a collection of five original Animal Fairy Tales, filled with adventure, humor, and intrigue. But I didn’t stop at just writing stories—I wanted to visualize them in a way no one had done before.

Armed with creativity and curiosity, I painted rock art of my characters and experimented with AI-generated illustrations—long before it became mainstream. Using one of the earliest versions of ChatGPT, I generated dynamic action scenes of animals, capturing their personalities and emotions. In fact, the cover art of my book is a prime example of this innovative approach!

What makes this book unique is its multi-layered storytelling. On the surface, it’s a fun and whimsical collection of fairy tales for children, but for adult readers, there’s an underlying depth—political intrigue, international relations, and moral dilemmas woven into the narrative. My characters aren’t just good or evil; they are complex—some kind, some mischievous, some downright wicked, and others hilariously eccentric.

As I wrote, the stories evolved organically—I started with just a rough outline, but the characters took on lives of their own, shaping the plot in unexpected ways. And perhaps, in a way, I became one of the first authors to publish a book with AI-generated illustrations.

For me, this journey was more than just writing a book—it was an experiment in creativity, technology, and storytelling. If you love imaginative tales, unique characters, and a blend of traditional and modern artistic expression, this book is for you!

Would love to hear your thoughts—has anyone else here experimented with AI-assisted storytelling or illustrations? Let’s connect!

Hi,

Writing Thrilling Stories: Lessons from My Book Beyond Imagination: Mindscapes

When I set out to write my second book, Beyond Imagination: Mindscapes, I knew I wanted to create something truly unpredictable—a collection of science fiction, murder mysteries, action-packed political thrillers, and paranormal tales, each with a shocking twist at the end.

This book features 22 short stories, each designed to keep readers guessing until the very last sentence. Some of these stories took shape during the COVID-19 lockdown, while others evolved in the months that followed. But what tied them all together was my scientific background—as a biochemist, I’ve always been fascinated by cutting-edge discoveries in physics, cosmology, chemistry, biology, archaeology, AI, and parapsychology. Naturally, these ideas found their way into my storytelling, adding layers of realism and intrigue.

Advice for Aspiring Writers: How to Write Engaging Stories

If you're a writer—especially if you're just starting out—here’s what I’ve learned about crafting compelling stories:

Start with an Intriguing Idea

Every great story begins with a what if? question. What if time travel had unintended side effects? What if an ordinary murder investigation uncovered something supernatural? The key is to start with a concept that sparks curiosity, then build your plot around it.

Keep the Reader Guessing

A good story shouldn't be predictable. Twists and turns keep readers hooked. Think of your plot as a winding road—just when the reader thinks they know where it's going, surprise them with an unexpected detour!

Endings Matter More Than Beginnings

Many writers focus too much on the opening lines, but in my view, the ending is what makes a story unforgettable. A satisfying twist—one that feels earned, logical, yet completely surprising—is what keeps people talking about your story long after they’ve read it.

Draw Inspiration from Everywhere

Don’t limit yourself to one genre or perspective. Some of my best ideas have come from scientific research, history, cultural myths, and even real-life events. Mixing elements from different fields makes stories richer and more unique.

Diversity Adds Depth

The best stories pull from diverse cultures, perspectives, and experiences. Whether it’s setting your thriller in an unfamiliar country, weaving in folklore from a different culture, or basing a character on someone you met in real life—diversity makes storytelling more authentic and immersive.

Final Thoughts

Writing Beyond Imagination: Mindscapes was an exciting journey into the unknown. If you love stories that blend science, mystery, and the unexpected, this book is for you! And if you’re a writer, my biggest advice is simple: keep exploring, keep questioning, and never be afraid to push the boundaries of imagination.

Thanks for sharing the advice for aspiring writers, Khawar Sohail Siddiqui. Great advice! Two of my best tips for crafting a great story are develop realistic, layered characters (and really get to know your characters as you outline so you'll know how they'll act and react in situations) and be open to change as you write the story because you might end up thinking of something better than what you originally planned.
