Introduce Yourself : Self-taught, passionate, and trying to break through even without a traditional background by Gwendoline Notte

Self-taught, passionate, and trying to break through even without a traditional background

Hi everyone,

I'm 24, I'm from Belgium, and deeply passionate about acting. I never had the chance to attend a traditional drama school, mainly for financial reasons, but that didn’t stop me from working hard and learning on my own. I’ve always loved the world of art, especially acting and drawing. I often do roleplay sessions with friends just for fun, to make people laugh or express emotions.

I’ve been applying to student castings through Backstage and Facebook for almost a year now, but I’ve received more than 130 rejections or no replies (more no replies than rejections). Still, I’m not giving up. I know the industry is tough, and I respect that completely. I just want to grow, learn, and prove that even without a classical path, someone with strong will and heart can find their place.

I recently did background work in a Franco-Belgian movie (as an extra) and loved the experience. Now, I want to go further and get a real role even a small one (student or not). I’m looking into online acting lessons to build my skills, and I’m also learning from books, videos, and online resources. I’m ready to double the effort if that’s what it takes.

My English is currently B1 level (my native language is French), but I keep improving every day because one of my goals is to work in Canada and the US later on. I believe in learning by doing, and even if I make mistakes, I know that’s part of the process.

I don’t do this for fame or money. Acting is something I carry in my soul. I want to move people the way amazing actors move me. I want to tell stories, convey emotions, and inspire others who also come from a non-traditional path.

I’d be really happy to connect with others who have been through similar journeys or who just want to share advice. Every little tip counts.

Thank you for reading, and wishing you all the best in your projects too!

Hi, Gwendoline Notte. Welcome to the community. Here's a blog that'll help you navigate Stage 32 and connect with creatives and industry professionals: www.stage32.com/blog/how-to-successfully-navigate-the-stage-32-platform-...

I’m a Stage 32 Lounge Moderator. I wanted to let you know I moved your post from the Acting Lounge to the Introduce Yourself Lounge since you're introducing yourself. If you make a post that's helpful/educational to the community, it can go in the Acting Lounge, like asking a question about acting or auditions.

The Acting Lounge is a place to connect with actors, voice actors, casting directors, etc., and the ways to do that are making helpful/educational posts in the Lounge and commenting on other people’s posts.

Let me know if you have any questions.
