Artists who work with authors

I am an author who is working with an artist who is creating graphics for my book. She has a natural talent and works very well in my genera. However, she has never done this before and neither have I. I would truly appreciate it if an artist who has done this before would share their experience in this field. I am not sure what to pay her for her work and she is open to anything. So if you know someone or if you are an artist please help.

Christy Condoleo

Not quite sure about the $. I think it should depend on amount of work really-especially since it is her first time. Does she wish to charge per page or a lump rate? I am considering taking on commissions myself and that is how I plan to base it. Depending on the amount of detail required would be another consideration. I know that on my first few projects I won't expect a lot since I'll be new. I had an illustrator friend help me out with a few of my books and he did so mainly for the exposure. I still paid him a bit, sadly though not nearly what his work was worth since I'm not exactly rolling in cash. I shout out about his ability every chance I get though.
