The type of camera does have a bit to do with editing but the most import things are your resolution 540p, 720p, 1080p and your fps. With a dslr most shoot at 30fps. Do you have a Mac or a PC? From free software and if you have a Mac start with iMovie until you invest. Finalcut X has the power and is very user friendly. The industry standard right now for editing is Finalcut 7(Mac) or Avid(PC)

i just use PC in my office for my staff. I have acer for my financial planning business and I recently buy Mac Air (i dream bout it since steve jobs still alive. Lol). I'm not install many software yet in my new Mac. Seem better i use my Mac for editing my movie and write script. Thanks a lot Patrick, i do ur suggestion. Really appreciate it :)

Your MacBook Air has good power. If you are editing on that you are going to need a external hard drive.

Anita Lindawaty SSi MSi

Sure, i have external hard drive. For saving movie after editing?

Patrick "pH" Hampton

It's to save all the footage you shot and stores it. Keeping your computer open so it can process better and faster. HD space is the biggest issue when editing. You can never have enough.

Darren Wiesner

The new Final Cut Pro X is selling for approx. 400.00. It's inexpensive and does a great job. I personally use FCP 7 but if you are just new to editing, the more basic system the better. You don't want to be overwhelmed. Since you have a mac, imovie is pretty simple to edit on. Good luck.

Patrick "pH" Hampton

@Darren so true. I use both depends just on my project.

Nina Hedberg

I have a Canon EOS T2i camera, and I've used the software Vegas Pro 10, which is pretty easy to use. I agree with Patrick Hampton about the HD space- my camera records really awesome footage, but the file sizes are so large! I'd recommend using Vegas Pro 10 though- simple and relatively cheap :)

Patrick "pH" Hampton

@nina Vegas is something good to start with but I wou D rather go with iMovie for free if I had the choice what to use. FinalcutX is your best bet. It's cheap for an editting software. Easy to learn and has a lot of extras to give you that pro editors look when you are ready.

Patrick, Darren and Nina, thanks u so much, i really apriciate ur kind suggestion. i will try all, then choose one suitable for me. nothing to lose to learning everything, rite? :) btw, anyone know about edius?

Darren Wiesner

No problem, glad to help. Good luck with that edit Anita. I checked out Edius and it looks amazing. No rendering which is crazy awesome. Here is a link to a youtube video of it in use. http://youtu.be/vHXOf8Acsmo

oww.. wow! thank u so much for ur info darren. my friend Amir Athar Soheili, director from Simiya Film in Iran told me about edius. He said he can buy it and send to me if i cant find it. But i told him i will search and buy it by myself :)

I like to use iMovie on the MacBook Pro, because it's free when you buy one. I used to make movies on my iPod/iPad using iMovie for $5. I am now looking for more software
