I am working on a Return on Investment handout for a group of investors. We all know that investing in movies is very risky and this industry is known for swindling returns even when they are legitimately made. So what are some taglines or pointers that have been successful for you. My handout starts out as such (stolen in some variation from another pitch): A movie is the best investment one can make for the up-side potential vs. the risk. There simply is no business with manufacturing capital entry requirements as low as motion pictures where the potential return can be as unlimited over the short, medium and long terms.
Even averagely entertaining films at some point within the copyright duration (60 years) has endless opportunity to take advantage of the multiple ways to recoup investments such as theatrical release, DVD sales and distribution, merchandising, Internet (Netflix, Itunes, Amazon, Youtube, etc), Cable Television and television syndication.
