Introduce Yourself : Hi! by Kimberly Ann Klasnic

Kimberly Ann Klasnic

Hi!

I'm a SC actress who doesn't find much work in this geographical area. I just filmed a small highway patrol spot and have done several projects over the years. I'm trying to shift into voice-overs (since location doesn't matter) and because I am a singer/songwriter as well. I look forward to connecting with all of you on Stage 32!! Anyone in SC?? Check out my work at www.kimberlyannklasnic.com p.s., I'm also the Momager to this guy www.andrewklasnic.com , he's in LA if anyone is looking for a 'young Matthew Mcconaughey' type!

Crystal Smith-Connelly

I'm in SC...Charleston! : )

Aimee Webb

Im in Bristol Tn so I know all about the geographical problems. Good luck on your journey and maybe one day we'll have the honor of meeting :)

Brandi Alyssa Young

I'm in SC too! Near Charlotte! Boy do I feel your pain! It's so frustrating, isn't it? So, if your son is in LA, why aren't you? Even though competition is fierce out there, at least you would get more chances than you do here. I'd go for it, if you could! You only live once and you have the perfect excuse to be there...your son! You only live once! :-)

Atlanta is a good place to look for work. Georgia is a hot bed of film/TV activity cause of their incentives program. In the last several years we've gotten several Series, Get Low, FootLoose, 42, Water for Elephants, Trouble with the Curve, and MANY other. A recent article was release that gave a strange bit of info. Of the 25 shows being filmed for TV right now, only 2 are filmed in LA, only 5 Total in California. Most of them are in Georgia, North Carolina, and Louisiana cause of their film incentive programs.

Yes, Robert, I have heard this too, and that more productions are coming to this region. However, even for us in SC, that is really of now help. GA's incentives are such that they get more from GA residents, and you sometimes have to even show proof of residency. Which totally does not help us across the border in SC.

Robert S. Evans

I've never seen a production ask for proof of residency for work in GA. That sounds like a rumor more than anything, and I was on set for 42, Get Low, and Water for Elephants. I worked with an actress out of NC named Ann Lukens, who has an agent in Atlanta and constantly works on projects in GA. Just keep the idea to expand outwards, I promise, the work is there. And most agents will tell you NEVER turn down extra work if you aren't a featured. Extra work with a good mentality and a hard work ethic is how you get noticed.

Brandi Alyssa Young

I believe it's on some of the series not ALL feature film work, and yes, I have known people personally that were turned down because of this. Oh, and one WAS a feature, that when they went to shoot some more in GA were not allowed to take him there. And this friend of mine is very personable and trustworthy and responsible. No reason not to believe him.

Robert S. Evans

Again, I've never heard or seen this. It doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Water For Elephants brought their entire extra and crew, they just filled in smaller parts with locals. 42 dragged a crew out of Tennessee to work for them in Macon. It depends heavily on the production, and the people behind it. I know several out of state actors who get work in GA no problem, no questions, no issues. The best thing to tell you is don't let one person's horror story stop you from trying. Its one of the 10 things listed that hinder young film makers and actors. You don't know till you try.

Robert S. Evans

Georgia's incentives are not based on location of the people, just the money spent in state for productions. If they were turned down cause they weren't locals in state, someone didn't understand the incentives program. http://www.georgia.org/SiteCollectionDocuments/Industries/Entertainment/...

Brandi Alyssa Young

Well, all I can say for sure is that I have heard from reliable sources that this is true. So much so that some personal friends of mine have gotten friends in GA to use as their address. As well as my friends in GA stating this too. So, what may be on paper may not be what is done. probably one of those misunderstood rules that instead of anyone figuring out plays it safe with local to GA actors.

Kimberly Ann Klasnic

wow, thanks you guys!! I'm enjoying the discussion!! I will definitely try acx, @Cory Parella. I've never heard of it! And I haven't moved to LA because I still have a 16 y/o in high school and a daughter right up the road in college. Plus, I hear that LA is losing a lot of it's productions but most of the auditioning is there, that's why my son went out after high school. My agent here tells me that LA work/training on the resume is somehow regarded as 'better' even if that's not the case.

Robert S. Evans

www.actorsaccess.com is another great starting point for getting your name out there as well as finding jobs. Also, on this very page, check out projects seeking actresses. Plenty are all around you, while it might not pay the greatest, experience and resume credits are also very valuable.

Brian Rooney

Noticed you were repped by Harvest --- tell Charlie I said "get a job" - actually, you can tell him I said hello - see if he remembers me.

Bret Schaller

Your momanager note caught my attention. I'm the dadager for sevryn.us. I do his videos and website and joined Stage 32 to hopefully learn how to do it better. I don't consider myself 'in the industry' but they are filming quite a few movies here in NC. Seems like an acceptable commute for a film shoot. Maybe you could find some work up here.

Brandi Alyssa Young

Kimberly, Yes, that would explain it, and you are right on that account as well, most of the auditions are in LA, by the time a film makes it over here the only things that are left are a few straggler roles, one or two lines, featured and extras. And even then it comes down to politics, and which local casting directors knows the local agents that knows the LA casting director best. But there is still always that chance.
