I started looking for a story board artist a few days ago, I've found one, but so many wonderful artists have come here, I want to leave the thread up so that all of you may view their work!
Don't know what your budget is, but there are a few programs that can help with that. Storyboard Quick is one. It's not the greatest, but it beats hand drawing every single storyboard!
That's a good suggestion Ray, thank you! I never knew such a thing existed. I narrate all my shots out anyway, so if I was an artist drawing them one by one would actually be simpler- lol but I learned on my last shoot that if I'm not looking over the DP's shoulder and he hasn't got an actual rendering of what I want, well good luck. I'll be on the floor as a dead body for this entire shoot, so I need something! Thanks!
Just don't forget us little people Loralie!!!!! I am actually an artist, but I ended up purchasing Storyboard Quick, for the time that it saves! It's not too flexible as far as positioning hands and whatnot, but, you can storyboard the basic concept so that your DP has a feel of what you are looking for. You can explain the rest on set. Hi Loralie, You might also want to look at a program called Poser. It is a simple 3D figure creation application that would allow you to quickly create 3D models and position them in any situation or emotion you could desire. You would also be able to render your compositions out to a file where you would then paste your created image into a storyboarding template. All you would have to do then is print. Here's the link: http://poser.smithmicro.com/poser.html Another similar piece of software is Quidam. Here is that link. http://www.n-sided.com/index.php Of course there is the professional storyboarding and animatic software from Toon Boom named Storyboard Pro. It is very expensive though but I love it. It handles just about all my previs. If not, I'll create something in Autodesk Maya. Here is the link to Storyboard Pro: http://beta.toonboom.com/professionals/storyboard-pro Hope this helps, Thomas
@Ray, I promise that as my career develops I will always insist on using real artists, as there can be no substitute in my mind :) Thank you for the link. And thank you Thomas for the "poser" tip. I'll look into both these options.
Evening Loralie, I work with a wonderful artist named Pablo Donoso - he has been producing book covers, story boards, CD covers for a small label I am co-producing for Nabyl Sohle, and is one of my closest personal friends, I am always happy to recommend him. He has some of his work on his website www.phantomcloud.org but I'd be happy to do an introduction if you are still looking for someone to work on your storyboards since a lot of his work on that site are compositing, matte paintings, and other digitally based works since he works for a few TV networks in South Florida (Univision, Telemundo, etc.) when he is not producing art for my companies. Please feel free to message me and I can arrange for a conference call. Thank you, good luck in your search EFC
Oh heavens Mike thank you. I've already left the board for the day, but I came back on for this. I've already found an artist to work with, very very talented, but is building his movie resume. Thank you so much though for your kindness!
Oh my Devon, that is beautiful work...I saw it said you are available for childrens book and graphic novel work? We're always looking for more artists at Haven Publishing. We have a few contracts at the moment with Ersi Spathoupoulou (animad.gr), Susan Eaddy (claythings), Pablo Donoso (phantomcloud.org), Bo Hampton & Noah Barrett (Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Vertigo) - on various projects on our table. I would love to connect with you and talk about a few of our upcoming projects that will need new artists
Hi Devon, actually Emanuel is setting me up with an artist already and I'm so glad you two have met. Emanuel... I have a children's novel that needs publishing- is Haven Publishing excepting submissions?
Emanuel~ tell your wife not to be mad at me but a very happily married woman in California is falling desperately in love with you and my husband is happy about it :p
Hey Loralie! It looks like you're taken care of here but I'm a storyboard artist and I have plenty of other artist connection from college. I'll shoot you a request if you have any other projects needed in the future, I might be able to help, if you'd like. Best of luck with everything!
I know I'm late to the party, but I'd like to put my name and link out there. I'm a storyboard artist and illustrator who has done a little bit of everything. I work in pencil or by tablet if you want something more colorful and detailed. Lately, I've been working with writers to turn their scripts into graphic novels, which has been a great way to develop my eye and style. Samples can be seen at : www.albumartist.com
