Introduce Yourself : Hello everyone! New to the industry. by Julius Malco

For the past 2+ years, I have been working on producing a film project in Saint John, NB Canada. It's a zero budget (everything out of pocket) full length feature film. The movie is entitled, CALLING. You can check out the project on my page or at www.callingthemovie.com. Written by a good friend of mine, Robert Parsons and directed by the very talented Jared Burt (Director for Play Dates - "Days & Nights" music video). I currently work in the Healthcare IT Industry and I must say if someone asked me a few years ago if I would be sitting here writing about producing a movie I would have scoffed at them. However, here I am, a week away from our local premiere doing just that. It's been a labour of love for our entire cast and crew who worked for free on the project. A lot of people raise their eyebrows when you have a crew of over 30 people working on a project this ambitious who don't expect to be compensated for it. Since this was our first venture into film, getting funding from local sources was extremely difficult without having a previous completed project or having any film industry experience whatsoever. Regardless, we trudged on and since our director owned a SONY XDCAM camcorder and his own lights, there was no reason why we couldn't proceed on our own with the people involved. I'm proud of each and everyone who was involved with our project the spouses and children who stood by our sides while we worked 9-5 day jobs and shot after work, and on weekends for 5-6 hours or more.
