Your Stage : Rating Trailers by Jennifer DiMarco

Rating Trailers

We have three trailers out right now (all at www.blueforgeproductions.com) and I'm getting feedback that I'm being "too conservative" with the ratings I've posted. Opinions? How do others handle "rating" shorts and trailers? Thanks everyone. You've been an incredibly helpful community!

Rachael Saltzman

What are you talking about?

Jennifer DiMarco

Hi Rachael. Over at our website, we've posted our trailers. We rated them -- Mature 18+, General Audience, Teen, etc. I was asking if other independent companies do this and what guidelines they use. Sorry I was unclear.

Rachael Saltzman

'unrated', unless you want to pay the MPAA.

Jennifer DiMarco

Gotcha. Don't use the R, G, PG, etc. But what about content warnings? We do children's content and adult content. If there's some light swearing, should it be marked 'Teen'? If there's nudity, should it be marked 'Mature'? Thanks for your insight, Rachael.

Evan Marlowe

I put "hasn't been rated" on mine. Maybe if you're getting them into cinemas it matters but for online purposes I doubt it does. What is your goal?

Rachael Saltzman

I'd do two separate pages - 'family' and 'mature'.

Jennifer DiMarco

Evan, the trailers are there for potential investors and producers to see. And just to get people talking about the projects. Rachael, that's a good idea. I can run that by the team here and see if the website can be reorganized that way. Thank you both.
